At the end of May, the Law Commission of India made a public notice addressing all those who might be concerned. The notice invited stakeholders and general public to introduce their opinions and suggestions on gambling in the country and its legal status.
As it is also expressed in the notice, despite gambling business in India being banned, numerous media reports clearly point at the existence of illicit casinos all around the country. Even strict legal measures aimed at eliminating illegal gambling businesses are not leading to projected outcomes.
Thus, the Indian government has chosen to go another way and consider the possibility to legalise casinos. Reasonable legislation in this sector would help to create jobs, increase tax revenues and generate income. Besides, India would be able to compete in terms of gambling with such prominent countries of the Asian region as Japan and the Philippines.
